Slows Express and Catering is an extension of the popular Slows Bar BQ restaurant, which opened in September 2005 and is located on Michigan Avenue near the old Tiger Stadium. Slows Express opened in 2010 and is located at 4107 Cass Avenue in the Midtown area of Detroit. In addition to acting as a commissary kitchen to Slows Bar BQ, Slows Express provides catering services and take-out sales. Future endeavors include bottling and sales of Slows signature barbecue sauces and packaged foods, which will be marketed and sold locally, nationally and online.
The project developers are experienced restaurant operators and have been active in Detroit's targeted revitalization efforts. This business expansion served to rehabilitate a vacated structure and added 26 full-time equivalent jobs in the City.
Financing for Slows Express was provided by the Urban Retail Loan Fund (URLF) in concert with financing from First Michigan and a Midtown Façade Grant.
