Willy’s Overland Lofts LLC Closed: August 17, 2006
The Willy’s Overland Lofts project
will convert the former Willy’s Overland building into
75 for-sale, loft condominiums and commercial space. Built
in 1912, the original facility was home to Willy’s Overland
Company, best known for the production of the WW II military
Jeeps. The four-story building is located on W. Willis, midway
between Cass and Second Avenue in Midtown.
Sixty units will
be constructed on floors 1-4, which will feature 12-14 foot
ceilings. A fifth and sixth floor will be constructed to provide
15 two-story townhouses with nine foot ceilings. Residential
units will be configured to provide one to three bedrooms,
and range in size from 992 to 2,476 square feet.
New individual forced air units for each condominium along with
new elevators, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler, fire alarm,
security and building entry systems will be provided. Approximately
58 of the 109 parking spaces will be secured interior spaces;
the balance will be secured exterior spaces. An additional building
was included in the acquisition and will be developed in the
future as commercial space. The Detroit Investment Fund partnered
with National City Bank’s CDC and the Michigan State Housing
Development Authority (MSHDA) to finance this project.
